Jay Archer, Landscape Designer and President of John Jay Landscape Development will be giving a lecture presentation on 'Rainscapes - A Raingarden for Everyone ' as part of the Landscapes for Better Living program @ the Mad Gardeners Event this Sunday Feb 3rd at the Richmond Center, New Milford Conn.. This exciting and informative presentation will feature and highlight three raingarden design and construction projects. The projects include a large scale Rainscape which also serves as a outdoor classroom, a public garden at The Native Plant Center WWC,Valhalla NY as well as a residential project which was required by the town for storm water management. Each unique one of a kind garden/landscapes involved design planning, sensitive site development as well as employing bio-engineering methods. These landscape projects serve as community models for sustainable design and development. They each meet the standards and guidelines for LID (Low Impact Development) SSI (Sustainable Site Initiative) as well as all local and federal storm water requirements. These landscapes utilize native plants and natural earth products to produce a beautiful composition on flowering perennials, tree's and shrubs. These gardens are are also organic by design and maintenance practices requiring no watering, fertilizing or pesticides.
Beautiful and attractive to beneficial native species (birds and butterfly's0 they also provide opportunities for education to raise awareness of the value of ecological , natural and organic landscape practices.
