Handy Helpful Hints! Some Useful Tools for Drainage Site Analysis

1. Perk Test to determine infiltration rates (see the drainage site analysis check list) 2. Probe/Rod with hammer sleeve to ascertain depth and location of bedrock 3. Soil Probe (3 foot length) for soil testing 4. Clineometer for shooting grades determining degree of incline 5. PH & Moisture meter. And common sense, don't leave home without it.

We were fortunate to work with a client on the banks of the Hudson River overlooking NYC. The planting plan consisted of plants grown from a seed source originating within 99 miles of NYC. This meets the strictest Standard of Ecological Restoration. The challenges presented included initial site development work including removal/control of invasive exotic species (plants/weeds). Effort was made to accomplish this task without disturbing the soil/seed bank.

Site Protection Erosion Control & Landscape Contracting!

Once a landscape plan is accepted by a client and permit work is approved (if applicable, see upcoming permitting issues), the next critically important first step is to call Dig Safely to locate/mark utilities. Then install/erect site protection. Check the Town/State Building codes to determine what is required. Any area of disturbance should be protected during construction.

This year our biggest growth area/department has been our 'General Contracting & Construction Division.' In addition to the usual extensive excavation, drainage/waterproofing, masonry, driveway/road construction and repair we were engaged in custom carpentry, remodeling, electric, plumbing, roofing, etc.
